3rd Thursday Jazz with Terri Lyne

Terri Lyne Carrington
6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 19
Fort Worth Public Library – Central 500 W. 3rd St.
Fort Worth, 76102

Terri Lyne Carrington doesn’t necessarily look like someone who has been playing music professionally for more than 40 years, but that’s what happens when you dive into the business at age 10.

The three-time Grammy winning drummer was a fixture of late night TV in the 1980s as the house drummer for The Arsenio Hall Show, and in the 1990s as the drummer on VIBE, a Quincy Jones-produced show hosted by comedian Sinbad.

With eight albums to her name, and the distinction of being the first female to win a Grammy for Jazz Instrumental Album, she teaches workshops at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, to help guide the next generation of musicians – particularly women.

Carrington will perform selections from her 2013 album, Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue, a tribute to the seminal 1963 Money Jungle album recorded by Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus and Max Roach.

FREE Admission. No tickets needed. FREE PARKING in the Sundance Square Garage III (420 Throckmorton St.) and on the streets after 6 p.m. Entrance to parking garage is located on 3rd St.
