Art Tooth: NEW feature series Art + Funk. November 7- 30

Art Tooth is proud to announce the artwork of Brenda Ciardiello on display Thursday, November 7 – November 30 as part of the
NEW feature series Art + Funk. Born in Mexico City but raised in Texas, Brenda Ciardiello is a watercolor artist heavily influenced by her bicultural and international experience of the world. She has lived / studied in Mexico, Italy, the U.K., New York City, New England, the Rocky Mountains and the Middle East. Her artwork is fundamentally inspired by her love of discovering and living in new places and painting what those journeys and places mean to her.
Brenda paints contemporary landscapes, abstract art and botanicals that deal with themes of nostalgia, wanderlust and the translation of raw emotion into color / image. Almost all of her work focuses on depicting the unique interplay of color, light and texture in otherwise fleeting elements: water, clouds, and flora. Brenda currently lives and works in Fort Worth, Texas with her husband and three young sons. She can be found chasing pretty skies, painting in her studio, cooking unnecessarily elaborate meals, or riding the Trinity Trails with her family and their Westie, Hamilton.

Artist Statement:
I am inspired by the ever-changing natural world around me. My landscape paintings depict how the surrounding light and natural elements that encompass a landscape – clouds, weather, seasons – can completely alter one’s experience of it, and inspire wonder. The drama of the clouds, the endless permutations of color in the ocean, the play of light on a botanical subject, are often the focus of my paintings.
As my primary medium, watercolor lends itself particularly well to depicting the play of water and light with its translucent, and often serendipitous results. I employ the use of water “blooms” and allow the natural “sparkle” of the white paper to shine through the pigment in order to create effects that uniquely capture the luminous qualities of sky and water.
As an avid traveler, and someone who has moved a lot, my paintings are a way of personally connecting with all the places I visit and live. My hope is to inspire a similar sense of belonging and wonder for viewers. Through the intangible, mutable nature of sky and water, my paintings celebrate constant change in the familiar — and invite the viewer on an adventure.
