Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival

Photo Gallery at the bottom of the page.

The first time I attended Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival in Stephenville I thought my GPS was broken. After a good hour in the car you crest a hill on a country road to nowhere and behold the festival in all its glory… a sea of tents and SUVs, many of which will be there for the full six days of the festival.

Nevertheless, when the sun came out after days of torrential rain, I decided that nowhere was the place to be, and headed out to the 31st LJT Festival.

LJT is often dubbed the Country Woodstock. No Jimmy or Janis, but a great lineup and little mud to boot, having hosted bands such as Pat Green, Eli Young Band, and Maren Morris, just to name a few.

In years past I have always attended the event during the full crush of the weekend party, but while the Thursday crowd was smaller, the fans were just as fanatical, and the Thursday lineup had a full 14 bands, including Flatland Cavalry, William Clark Green and the Randy Rogers Band.

The crowd started pouring in around 5:30, and by 6.30 the grounds were packed and the music started to flow and didn’t stop until headliner the Randy Rogers Band ended their set around 11.30.

Guest that are 21 and over are allowed to bring beer to the festival (No glass.), and there are over 30 food and art vendors, along with a mini beer store that sells beer by the case and cold singles. Hard liquor is not sold or allowed on the grounds, spirits were high so there was no need.

LJT goes on through Saturday night, with the Mike McClure Band finishing off the festival around midnight.
